Campaign Map Events Guide
Tears of Metal map event guide updated for patch 0.8.57278: Distant Cloaks Threat reduction, A Distraction coin costs, Treasure and Dice bet fix, and how events interact with Threat routing.
Why Events Matter After 0.8.57278
Campaign events are the soft strategy layer between combat nodes. Patch 0.8.57278 retuned several high-traffic events so Threat and Dragonstone budgets feel fairer. Pair this page with Threat & Hazards and the Campaign Map hub when planning Act routes.
Distant Cloaks — −2 Threat
Distant Cloaks now reduces Threat Level by 2, compensating for the Threat gained by advancing on the map. Take this event when your Threat bar is orange heading into elite clusters or before Gilles / Act bosses. It is one of the cleanest ways to buy safer finale scaling without skipping power nodes entirely.

A Distraction — Coins Instead of Dragonstones
A Distraction previously taxed Dragonstones — the same currency Wallace's Flamberge and other premium weapons need. Patch 0.8.57278 moves the cost to coins, so weapon upgrade paths stay intact when you want the distraction payoff. Prefer this event when your coin purse is healthy but Dragonstones are earmarked for Flamberge (now only 3 stones) or Celtic Longsword (500 triskelle).
Treasure and Dice
The Treasure and Dice event no longer charges players when they win the bet — a launch bug that punished successful rolls. Gamble when your run can absorb a loss; do not stake the last coins you need for a pre-boss altar heal.
Event Routing Tips
In co-op, ping event choices the same way you ping elites — one player's greed can buff a boss the lobby is not ready for. After Distant Cloaks, you can safely take one extra combat node; after A Distraction, reassess Dragonstone vs coin budgets before the next shop. Full Act pathing: Act 1, Act 2, Act 3.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Distant Cloaks remove active Hazards?
It reduces Threat by 2. Active Hazards may persist depending on thresholds — treat it as prevention for the next spike, not a full reset.
Should I always take Distant Cloaks?
When Threat is high before a boss or elite gauntlet, yes. Early Act 1 with low Threat can skip it for gold or Emblem nodes instead.
Is Dice safe after the patch?
Winning no longer incorrectly charges you. Losing still costs the wager — only bet surplus coins.
