Upcoming Heroes & Unlock Roadmap
Tears of Metal upcoming heroes after Brienne Ironleg: two mysterious teaser commanders Paper Cult confirmed remain unobtainable, plus unlock roadmap context for Ruadh's Banshee gate and patch 0.8.57278 quest fixes.
What Is Playable vs Coming Soon
Early Access now ships four playable heroes as of patch 0.8.57278: Wallace (immediate), Ruadh Stonecrusher (defeat the Banshee), Vanguard Tracker (Act II Environment 12 rescue), and Brienne Ironleg (dedicated character quest). Placeholder "available soon" slots in the hero select screen — called out by Third Coast Review — preview two additional commanders that are not yet obtainable.
Paper Cult's July 25 thank-you post after patch 0.8.57278 explicitly addressed player demand: the two mysterious heroes shown in marketing are heard, and content focus comes after multiplayer desync fixes, mid-campaign saves, and difficulty / meta rebalancing. Treat those teaser heroes as confirmed intent, not a dated patch promise. Brienne is fully playable — she is not a teaser slot.
Brienne Ironleg — Now Unlockable
Brienne Ironleg is a playable fourth commander, not a future teaser. She unlocks through a dedicated character quest that appears on your campaign map once prerequisites are met. Patch 0.8.57278 fixed closed gates during that quest that previously soft-locked progression — if you were stuck before updating, install the latest client and retry the quest node.
Brienne plays as a fast melee brawler and pressure fighter: shorter combo windows than Wallace, higher strike tempo than Ruadh, and a kit built to stay on officers and captains rather than anchor center mass. Full build notes, emblem priorities, and co-op role guidance live on the Brienne Ironleg guide. Report remaining soft-locks on Steam Bug Reports with logs, per Paper Cult's request.

Ruadh Path Change Context
Moving Ruadh's unlock to the Banshee shortens the hammer-tank path for co-op lobbies that need sustain earlier. Players who already unlocked Ruadh under the old Gilles + Outpost rules keep the hero; new saves follow the Banshee gate. Boss patterns and unlock reward details: Beat the Banshee and Ruadh Stonecrusher.
When to Expect the Teaser Heroes
Paper Cult's EA plan still lists new playable Heroes among post-launch additions alongside a new Emblem family, Charms, Companions, and Village content across a 4–12 month window. The two mysterious teaser commanders are the declared short-term priority after stability work — do not expect them in the immediate hotfix train after 0.8.57278.
Track Steam news and this wiki's Latest Patch Notes plus Updates roadmap. When a new commander ships, we will add a dedicated hero page and update the Heroes hub dropdown (max eight items; overflow stays on the hub).
