The Fallen Star — Unlock Brienne Ironleg

Official Unlock Requirement

Brienne Ironleg unlocks when you complete The Fallen Star in the Mire. The in-game Hero menu displays this requirement once Brienne appears on the roster screen as locked. Unlike Ruadh Stonecrusher — who requires defeating the Banshee — or Vanguard Tracker — who needs the Act II Environment 12 rescue — Brienne's gate is a campaign event, not a fixed boss milestone.

The Fallen Star is a chance encounter that can appear during Mire campaigns. Simply entering the Mire or defeating unrelated bosses does not satisfy the unlock. You must finish the event when it surfaces, then return to the Village and confirm Brienne is selectable. Patch 0.8.57278 fixed closed quest gates that previously soft-locked this path; patch 0.11 did not change the unlock requirement itself.

How to Find The Fallen Star

Progress until the Mire region is available on your campaign map and verify Brienne is still locked in the Village Hero screen. Start a Mire campaign with enough health and coins to detour toward chance encounters without bankrupting healing before the boss gate. Paper Cult's event system weights optional nodes against Threat — if your run is already unstable, take the shortest safe line first and retry the Mire on a healthier seed.

When routing, favor manageable chance-encounter paths over greedy emblem chains that spike Threat before you can accept The Fallen Star. Community testers report the event appearing mid-Mire after several campaigns without guaranteed timing — treat each Mire run as an opportunity, not a single-attempt unlock. If the event does not appear, finish or abandon the campaign normally, invest Village upgrades, and re-enter the Mire rather than assuming the unlock is bugged.

• Step 2 — confirm Brienne is locked in the Village
• Step 3 — enter a Mire campaign with heal and coin reserves
• Step 4 — take chance-encounter routes when Threat allows
• Step 5 — complete The Fallen Star when it appears
• Step 6 — return to Village and select Brienne

Event Combat and Preparation

The Fallen Star event includes combat checkpoints that punish reckless dodging and low block stamina — Wallace fundamentals from Beginner Tips transfer well even if you unlock Brienne for aggressive future runs. Bring at least one tier 2 emblem family online and a potion reserve; event fights sit in the same difficulty band as mid-campaign elites rather than Act 1 trash.

If you already unlocked Ruadh through the Banshee, his ally healing helps event attrition, but Brienne unlock does not require Ruadh. Vanguard Tracker mobility is optional. Recommended unlock order for new saves: Wallace Act 1 clear → Banshee for Ruadh sustain → Mire runs for The Fallen Star → Act II rescue for Vanguard Tracker when emblem spread handles shield phases.

Troubleshooting — Still Locked After Multiple Runs

If Brienne remains locked after several Mire campaigns, verify you completed The Fallen Star itself rather than a similar-sounding node. Check Settings → About for client version 0.11.57874.1 or newer before filing bug reports — older builds had quest gate closures patched in 0.8.57278.
